Bernardette Gallagher Costa grew up on a farm in central New Jersey, the middle child in a family of seven children. She graduated from Middlesex County College with a degree in Social Science and then went on to earn a Geology degree and teaching certification from Cook College, a subsidiary of Rutgers University. For the next eight years, Bernardette taught high school science at Lakewood High School. She then moved to New Hampshire and continued to work in the field of education while honing her writing skills.
Striving to incorporate her love of the outdoors into every endeavor, Mrs. Costa's goal has been to be able to use her outdoor experiences to entertain while educating. She and her husband had spent decades exploring the natural world across much of the United States and Canada when they found themselves drawn to the lovely scenery of the White Mountains of New Hampshire. They have even climbed the 48 highest peaks in the state, all over 4000 feet tall. These experiences have given her much to write about. In her spare time, Mrs. Costa enjoys exploring Franconia Notch State Park, believing it to be the loveliest state park in the country.
